The European Union's decision to allocate 10 million euros to Armenia is a "strategic investment for peace and security", said Spanish MEP Jon Iñarritu Garcia.
On July 22, the Council of the Union adopted an assistance measure, worth 10 million euros, under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support the Armenian Armed Forces.
Invited to comment on this resolution, the MEP, who has long been close to the Armenian Cause, Iñarritu Garcia, said that "this funding will improve Armenia's defense capacity, help it protect civilians and contribute to regional stability".
"The EU's allocation of €10 million to Armenia is a strategic investment in peace and security," Iñarritu Garcia said, adding that Armenia will continue to embody the principles of solidarity and cooperation that define EU-Armenia relations and that the Union expects to be constantly increased in practice. This contribution is not just a financial gift, but a declaration of solidarity and recognition of Armenia's strategic importance in the region. "The European Union's decision should be read as a clear signal of support for Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The financial support will also improve the protection of civilians in crisis and emergency situations. This means better preparedness and faster response times in the face of natural disasters, armed conflicts or other emergencies, which are essential to safeguard the lives and well-being of Armenian citizens," the Spanish MP said. He added that a "stronger and more capable Armenia" contributes to the overall stability of the South Caucasus region. "We trust that this is not a one-off assignment, but part of a sustained support effort by democratic countries to prevent further aggression from Azerbaijan. The Aliyev regime's recent war rhetoric in response to this assignment and the joint military exercises between the United States and Armenia underscore the ongoing threat. Continued international support is critical to ensuring Armenia's security and stability," Iñarritu concluded.
