Introduction Հայաստանի Քրիստոնեա Դեմոկրատական Շարժում. Ani Tslokyan answers our questions
We interviewed Ani Tsolakyan member of the Քրիստոնեա-ժողովրդական վերածնունդ կուսակցություն/ՔԺՎԿ. Our interlocutor was shown very open to dialogue, kind and very prepared.
The member of Քրիստոնեա-ժողովրդական վերածնունդ կուսակցություն / ՔԺՎԿ, Ani Tsolakyan explains to us the values of the historians of the Armenian people. Above all, she tells us that this political formation does not define itself as a political party but as a civil movement. The interview was exhaustive, and the political perspective expressed is very interesting. We wish good luck to this movement, whose conduct seems extremely honest to us.
1) Throughout the Western world, Christian-inspired political parties or movements are in crisis and in some states have also disappeared. How do you see this phenomenon?
You have already mentioned that the whole Christian-inspired political world is in crisis today, especially in Western countries. However, the reality of the situation is quite different in Eastern Christian societies, where the people are more conservative towards the religious values than in Western societies. We should mention that the Armenian society is conservative one. In spite of the fact that there is a restricted number of Christian-inspired political parties in Armenia, however, there are some parties which have significant perspectives of development in this direction related to the current changes in the political life of our country. The political movements with Christian concepts do not yet exist in our political life, but, along with the development of political parties, these concepts will be implemented in politics as well if the members of the parties will remain faithful to the principles of the Gospel. However, along with this, we can notice the development process in youth social movements which follow the Christian values.
2) Why do you want to put Christianity at the center of political life, in a secular and secularized society like the Armenian one?
On the one hand, we want to put Christianity at the centre of political life in order to maintain the Christian values which arise from the Gospel, and on the other hand we want to focus the attention of the other political parties on the importance of Christian values.
3) In countries like Italy, with a great Christian democratic history, there are new political movements that intend to carry out individual projects of Christian inspiration, including the "Family Party". Are you going to enter into a relationship with these political parties?
The political force that I represent is not a political party but a political movement, the objective of which is to unite the active groups of people who try to maintain the Christian values, evaluate and strengthen the family institute. It is very important to collaborate with relevant institutions for the exchange of experiences, the development and the implementation of certain new ideas.
4) Will you have a party of Christian identity or a political party formed by Christians?
The members of our political movement are the active Christians and in their activities they are guided by Christian ideologies. This fact in itself witnesses to the Christian identity.
5) What are the basic points of your political agenda?
Here are the basic points of our political agenda:
- Individual and State;
- Economy and Social politics;
- Ecology;
- Culture;
- Security;
- Foreign policy.
6) What kind of voter do you think to convince with your political proposal?
We think to convince all those voters who bear the Christian value system.
7) What are your relations with the Church, will the Church give you help for the campaign?
As an active member and coordinator of the Armenian Catholic Youth Association in Gyumri, I have a powerful army of young people from different communities behind me who provide a continual support and make a valuable contribution to draw the youth closer to the Church strengthening their belief in the Church and making them to recognize that the Church is their mother who will never abandon her children.
During the period of this campaign the clergy supports me with spiritual advices on how to perceive and realize the Catholic Social Teaching principles on politics.
8) Is there a text (book, poetry, website) that well represents your political proposal?
