Compie 90 anni Araxi Lilosian: Auguri per questo splendido traguardo
Her life has unfolded between Puglia and Piedmont, with significant contributions made in San Giovanni in Fiore, Calabria. There, she collaborated with her aunt and uncle, Sargis and Mariam Muscegian, helping to build the Armenian carpet factory and school from the ground up, an enterprise directed by Sargis Muscegian. She has also undertaken numerous travels across Italy and abroad with her children, Siranusc and Tito Quaranta.
A First-Generation Bridge to Italy
In her heart, Araksi has always harbored the profound desire to visit Yerevan. By visiting the Republic of Armenia, she hoped to be momentarily transported to the places where her mother, Siranush, was born, specifically Isparta in Asia Minor.
This internal duality is common to all first-generation Armenians born in Italy whose parents were survivors of the Armenian Genocide. The role played by Araksi and children like her was vital: they acted as a crucial bridge between their parents and Italian society. These young children were the ones who taught their parents the Italian language and local traditions, lovingly caring for those who carried the deep trauma and tragedy of the Genocide within them.
Honoring the Ancestors in Yerevan
This past summer, Araksi, accompanied by her children Siranusc and Tito, fulfilled her dream: she visited Yerevan, embracing her homeland and visiting the Dzidzernagapert Genocide Memorial together. She shared the joy of witnessing the beauty of their ideal Fatherland with her children.
This year, Araksi Lilosian was also the subject of a video portrait dedicated to her by Paolo Dell'Elce and a short film by Dino Viani, both produced by Delloiacono Comunica and the Fondazione Aria of Pescara.
To our dear friend Araksi, we extend the warmest wishes for this wonderful new milestone.
