"Importante società privata armena riceve permesso per le attività aerospaziali" di Carlo Coppola
In a global landscape marked by innovation and research in the aerospace sector—where even Italy's Apulia region has made significant strides in recent years—the Republic of Armenia is also making remarkable progress, expanding both its strategic vision and economic commitment. Public initiatives are increasingly supported by private capital, and less than a month ago, two leading international companies led by Armenian-origin boards and scientists announced strategic partnerships to advance multiple areas of research.
On April 11, Bazoomq and Kartes Analytica announced a collaboration to combine space research and geospatial analytics in Armenia. Babken DerGrigorian, co-founder and CEO of Kartes Analytica, and Avetik Grigoryan, co-founder and CEO of Bazoomq Space Research Lab, expressed their readiness to “leverage their strengths in space research and technological development to drive innovation and create value for Armenia in a rapidly growing global market.”
Yesterday, May 3, Kartes Analytica became the first commercial enterprise to receive a license for space activities from the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia. This license—only the third ever issued in the country and the second granted to a non-state entity—follows a rigorous evaluation and approval process and marks a crucial milestone in the development of Armenia’s emerging space sector.
Kartes Analytica specializes in developing data products and generating actionable insights through its advanced geospatial analytics platform. With this license, the company plans to expand its capabilities in both space and terrestrial resources, leveraging its expertise to foster technological progress and deliver innovative solutions in geospatial infrastructure.
Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, former Minister of Diaspora in Armenia’s first government under Nikol Pashinyan and currently serving as Minister of High-Tech Industry, emphasized the significance of this milestone:
"Granting Kartes Analytica a license for space activities represents a pivotal moment for the Armenian space industry. By enabling private companies to actively engage in space operations, we are fostering innovation, attracting investment, and creating new opportunities for economic growth."
The issuance of this license is particularly significant within the framework of Armenia’s Space Activities Law, enacted in 2020. This legislation laid the groundwork for promoting innovation and growth in Armenia’s new space sector. The license granted to Kartes Analytica marks a defining moment, underscoring the country’s firm commitment to commercial space activities and positioning Armenia as a key player in the emerging global space industry.
