"Italian-French Air Force Academies Sign Cadet Exchange Agreement" by Carlo Coppola

Major General Davide Cipelletti, Commander of the Italian Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli, and Brigadier General Olivier Kaladjian, head of the French École de l'air et de l'espace, signed a Technical Agreement in recent days opening the way for an exchange of cadets between the two institutions.
Kaladjian — whose surname, bearing the patronymic suffix "-djian," reflects Armenian origin typical of the Armenian diaspora in France — took command of Air Base 701 and the École de l'air et de l'espace in August 2025, succeeding Major General Pierre Réal after the latter's three years at the helm of the institute. Like his predecessor, Kaladjian had previously commanded an air base before being posted to the état-major particulier of the French President. Among the projects he inherits from the Réal administration are the "Mentor 2" pilot training program and the aerospace innovation platform (PIAS).
The agreement builds on the Quirinale Treaty and on the bilateral understanding between the two countries' defense ministries, signed in Farnborough in 2000 and amended in Rome in 2010. The initiative was launched in 2024 on a proposal by Gen. Girolamo Iadicicco, Defense Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Paris.
The first round of the exchange, named "Cadet's Exchange 2026," will involve one Italian and one French cadet, both in the second year of their Master's degree course in Engineering. The Italian cadet will spend a semester in Salon-de-Provence, home to the French Academy, while the French cadet will be hosted by the University of Naples Federico II. The study programs, agreed between the two universities, provide for credit recognition through the ECTS system. Both cadets will also have the option of taking part in conferences, seminars, and visits to operational units and industry organizations in the sector.
The agreement was signed in two separate ceremonies: in France, at the École de l'air et de l'espace, in the presence of Gen. Iadicicco; and in Italy, at Palazzo Farnese — seat of the French Embassy in Rome — in the presence of Amb. Anne-Marie Descôtes.
